School Background: Íæż½ã½ã Middle School was built in 1957 and an extension was added on in 1967 due to increased enrollment.  In 1985, the school became a middle school, housing grades 6, 7 and 8.  In 2003, additional classrooms, a new gymnasium and a music suite were built to accommodate the middle school’s development.

 

School Staff: The middle school has a 120-member teaching staff.  Support staff include paraprofessionals, secretaries, custodians, food service workers, school nurse, social worker, guidance counselors, psychologists and security personnel.

 

Code of Conduct: A Board of Education-approved Code of Conduct/Dress Code outlines rights and responsibilities of scholars, staff and parents.

 

Curriculum: We provide a balanced, comprehensive and success-oriented curriculum in a sensitive, caring and supportive learning environment.  Our program ensures a successful transition from the self-contained classroom structure of the elementary school to the departmentalized structure of the high school, while providing support and direction in your child’s transition from late childhood to adolescence.  Our program includes a multi-grade advisory program, block scheduling and interdisciplinary instruction.  World languages taught at the seventh and eighth grade levels include Latin, French, Chinese and Spanish.  The Íæż½ã½ã Middle School also has a dual language program, and accelerated/honors program and research program, as well as an extensive music and art program.

 

Special Needs: Qualified scholars are offered various support services: ESL, Seminar, Reading, Self-contained Classroom, Class-Within-a-Class (CWC) inclusionary special education setting, Resource Room, Speech, Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy and Counseling.

 

Testing: NYS English Language Arts in grades 6-8, NYS Mathematics Assessment in grades 6-8 and an assessment in Science in grade 8.  Scholars in the accelerated program also take the Earth Science, Integrated Algebra and Geometry Regents.

 

Student Promotion: Scholars promoted from Íæż½ã½ã Middle School will attend Íæż½ã½ã High School.

 

Extra-Curricular Programs and Club: The middle school provides a variety of extracurricular programs for scholars including: Interscholastic and Intramural Sports, Technology Club, Backstage and Drama Club, Yearbook Club, Newspaper Club, Computer Club, National Junior Honor Society and Tri-M Music Honor Society.

 

Computers and Technology: Íæż½ã½ã Middle School has two computer labs with networked computers accessible to all scholars.  Wireless labs are also available for classroom use.  Additional computers can be found in the writing lab, music room, library and classrooms.  These computers are used to encourage individual research skills and communication.  Smartboards are located throughout the building.

 

Parent and Community Involvement: The Parent Faculty Association (PFA) has been designed to foster involvement, communication and participation at all levels.  Parents as Partners connects parents directly with teacher teams on a monthly basis.
