Dear Íæż½ã½ã-Brightwaters Families,
Providing a high quality education to all students continues to be the Íæż½ã½ã's highest priority. As we prepare for our return to school, ensuring that our buildings consistently remain open for in-person teaching and learning is essential to achieving this mission. In addition, the safety, well-being and social-emotional needs of our students are of paramount importance. We appreciate the varying perspectives that have been expressed by members of our community, and want to assure you that we understand and respect everyone's position.
The Íæż½ã½ã Board of Education, Superintendent of Schools, Íæż½ã½ã Administrators Association, and the Íæż½ã½ã Classroom Teachers Association have been meeting in recent weeks and will continue to meet to review the guidance released by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), Suffolk County Department of Health (SCDOH) and the New York State Education Department (NYSED) to refine our current reopening plan. To ensure the safety and well-being of students, staff and visitors, and in order to align with the recommendations provided in the guidance offered by these organizations, it was determined that the Bay
Shore School Íæż½ã½ã will:
- Return all students to in-person learning on September 9, 2021;
- Require universal mask-wearing by all students, staff and visitors to school buildings, regardless of vaccination status, per existing guidance consistent with the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) to help minimize the extent of mandatory quarantines;
- Maintain at least three (3) feet of physical distance between students within classrooms;
- Continue to report positive cases of COVID-19 to Suffolk County Department of Health (SCDOH) and conduct contact tracing within the buildings.
Our decisions are guided by not only the recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), Suffolk County Department of Health (SCDOH) and the New York State Education Department (NYSED), but other considerations, which include an increase in the infection rate due to the COVID-19 Delta variant and our previous success during the 2020-2021 school year using multi-layered mitigation strategies.
Please be aware that as the guidance changes, our reopening plan may need to be adjusted accordingly. As always, we thank you for your support and understanding as we continue to navigate the COVID-19 pandemic together. We look forward to seeing our students in person on September 9 for an exceptional and productive 2021-2022 school year.
