BUS REGULATIONS

Parents are asked to review the following rules of conduct with their children.

  1. IT IS THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE KINDERGARTEN PARENT/GUARDIAN TO MEET THE BUS AT THE CHILD’S P.M. STOP, OR THE CHILD WILL BE BROUGHT BACK TO THE HOME SCHOOL.  Students in all other grades that are transported on a large bus will be let off upon arriving at the bus stop.
  2. Students receiving special transportation services as required by an IEP must have a responsible ADULT at home to receive the student.
  3. Riding the school bus is a privilege.  Any pupil who does not observe the “Bus Regulations for Pupils” will be denied the privilege of riding for a period of time to be determined by school authorities.
  4. Pupils are to be considerate of people and their property, especially in bus stop areas.  Pupils should also be reasonably quiet and orderly at bus stops.
  5. Pupils are to be ready when the bus arrives.  The bus driver is not expected to wait for students.
  6. Pupils are not allowed to enter or leave a bus while it is in motion.
  7. In crossing the street to enter or after leaving a stopped school bus, the pupils are to cross at least 15 feet in front of the bus in full view of the driver.  DO NOT CROSS IN BACK OF THE BUS; the driver may not be able to see you.  Where it is necessary to cross a roadway in order to board a bus or after leaving a bus, await a signal from the driver before crossing the roadway.
  8. Pupils must be seated and are not allowed to lean out of, or thrust head or arms out of school bus windows at any time.
  9. Pupils are not allowed to operate emergency windows or doors except during an emergency or when directed by the bus driver.
  10. Pupils are to be reasonably quiet and orderly on the bus and carry out all instructions of the driver.
  11. Pupils are not allowed to ride the bus for purposes other than transportation to and from their homes, e.g., pupils are not allowed to ride the bus for transportation to places of work, to visit friends, to go to music or dancing lessons, or to attend after-school or other religious instruction or classes.
  12. Pupils are not allowed to eat on the bus at any time.
  13. The carrying of large musical instruments, bulky packages, golf clubs, baseball bats, skateboards, scooters or any potentially dangerous objects on the school bus is prohibited.  Balloons are absolutely forbidden on the bus.
  14. Lacrosse sticks and hockey sticks will be permitted provided they are secured in a bag.
  15. Pupils are required to get parental permission forms signed and returned to the proper school for special trips.
  16. Smoking on school buses is absolutely prohibited.
  17. Pupils are not permitted to ride on any school buses other than those designated to transport them to and from bus stops nearest their homes.
